Second Grade
I am a graduate of Silver Lake High School (1992); Kansas State University (1996), with a bachelor's degree in elementary education; and Baker University (2011) with a master's degree in curriculum and instruction.
Professionally, I graduated in May, 1996, with my bachelor of science degree in elementary education with middle school endorsements in mathematics and science. I graduated in May, 2011, with my master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Baker University. I also am a National Board Certified teacher, receiving my National Board Certification in November, 2003. My certificate reads, "Middle Childhood Generalist." This is my most rewarding and proud professional accomplishment. I have never done anything harder in my life!
The 2022-2023 school year marks my 27th year in education and my 13th year as a second grade teacher.
Before teaching in the Silver Lake school district, I taught at Northern Hills Junior High in Topeka (now Seaman Middle School) where I primarily taught math and English. I also coached Freshman volleyball, girls' track, and boys' basketball, which I enjoyed very much!
I was hired as a junior high science, social studies, and Algebra teacher at Silver Lake for the 1999-2000 school year and then moved to Silver Lake Elementary the following year to teach fifth and sixth grade science. I taught sixth grade for ten years.
I was also a high school girls’ assistant basketball coach for five seasons at SLHS from 2016-2020
My husband, Scott, and I live in the Silver Lake school district and have been married for 25 years. He is a Case Design Analyst with Advisors Excel. We have three children who keep us very busy. Lyndsey is in her third year of college pursuing a Bachelor of Health Science degree from Washburn University. She also works full time in the lab of the Wamego Hospital. Dylan is a senior at SLHS. He is working in our classroom this year as a Teacher’s Aide. He plays football and basketball and loves watching movies and playing online games. Kaden is in 10th grade. He also enjoys playing football and basketball for SLHS and loves to play online games and watch movies, too. Kaden was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in August, 2015, so I am constantly researching advances in medicine. Our family has a cat named Coco.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, traveling, watching movies and sporting events, and spending time with my children. I also enjoy watching my children in all of their activities.
