Currently Silver Lake School District staff are attending professional development courses covering Classroom Instruction That Works and how to use it with technology. We have also recently completed Kagan Training. This focuses on cooperative learning. Our goal as a district is to get more students involved and active with their own learning. By using Kagan structures we are able to get students up, moving, discussing, and sharing what they are learning in a fun, open environment.
I began teaching at Silver Lake Elementary School in January of 2014. I currently teach reading and math to my homeroom students, and science to all fifth grade students.
Student Teaching:
Prior to working for the Silver Lake School District I completed my student teaching semester at Rochester Elementary School in the Seaman School District. During this semester I taught both fifth grade and kindergarten.
Assistant Volleyball Coach:
While I was in college I was an assistant volleyball coach at Jefferson West High School. I have always loved volleyball, and this was an incredible experience for me. Now that I am at Silver Lake I am the JH Assistant Volleyball Coach. I look forward to passing on the love of the game!
I married my husband, Josh, in 2012. He is a Firefighter/EMT with the Potawatomi Tribal Fire Department. Our family is going to grow by one this year! We already have one son, Rhett, who turned three this past May. He is onery, always smiling, and we love him to pieces! I am due with our second child November 24th. Boy or girl….nobody knows! It will be a surprise!
When I am not teaching I love to go to Royals games. My favorite player is Alex Gordon. Both my husband and I enjoy watching the game. Our goal is to visit every major league baseball stadium within in the next 10-15 years! We have ben to six stadiums together so far. Other than watching baseball, I also enjoy playing volleyball and softball. My husband and I play on co-rec teams in Topeka. I also enjoy spending time with family and going to the lake. We love to paddleboard, kayak, hike, camp and take our side-by-side for rides!
